Fiber Index Class™ — The Potential

Fiber Index Class™ (FI Class™) is the interpretation layer that places a food's Fiber Index profile into one of three easy-to-understand classes:

  • FAST™ — lower potential for fiber-associated moderation of carbohydrate digestion and absorption

  • BALANCED™ — intermediate potential for fiber-associated moderation of carbohydrate digestion and absorption

  • SLOW™ — higher potential for fiber-associated moderation of carbohydrate digestion and absorption

The classes reflect the relative fiber context surrounding available carbohydrate within the Fiber Index Fit™ model. As fiber presence increases relative to available carbohydrate, Fiber Index Fit™ moves from FAST to BALANCED to SLOW, reflecting increasing potential for fiber-associated moderation.

Why “Potential” Matters

Dietary fiber can influence carbohydrate digestion and absorption, but foods are complex and individual responses vary.

Fiber Index Class™ describes a food's position within the Fiber Index Fit™ model. It does not directly measure digestion speed, gastric emptying, glycemic index, or predict an individual's post-meal glucose response.

Potential, not prediction.

What does “potential moderation” mean?

Simply put  "the more fiber present relative to available carbohydrate, the greater the potential for fiber to moderate how those carbohydrates are digested and absorbed".

FAST™ = lower potential for fiber moderation
BALANCED™ = intermediate potential for fiber moderation
SLOW™ = higher potential for fiber moderation

Why This Matters

Nutrition labels tell you how much fiber a food contains. Fiber Index Fit™ asks another question:

How much fiber is present in the context of the food that contains it? FI Class™ translates that context into a simple FAST™, BALANCED™, or SLOW™ profile that makes differences between foods easier to understand.

What's the right FIT for the occasion?

FAST™ isn't bad. SLOW™ isn't always better.

Sometimes carbohydrate availability is the priority. At other times, a stronger fiber context may be the priority. And sometimes, the right fit is somewhere in between. That's where Fiber Index Fit™ moves beyond classification and toward real-world food choice.

Different foods. Different priorities. Different occasions. Different FITs.
